how do molecules move around and bumping into each other causes diffusion

OpenStudy (blues):

When two particles - let's say basketballs - hit each other in mid air, they change each other's directions and go sailing off in radically different directions than they started out going. Same with two little particles, let's say molecules. They hit each other, bounce off and go sailing off in different directions.
