what can i use componendo and dividendo for???

it is theorem in which the denominator is added to the numerator & numerator is added with negative denominator.

e. g. -> if x/y = a/b then by componendo & dividendo we have ( x + y) /( x- y ) = ( a +b )/ ( a - b ) \[\frac{x}{y}=\frac{a}{b}\] \[\frac{x+y}{x-y}=\frac{a+b}{a-b}\]

you can just use it for simplification,,it doesnt has wide applications..suppose you have some eqn and it takes you 2 steps 2 solve it,,CD shall cut it down to 1 step..thats all.. even if you dont use it,it doesnt matter much..

proof;----------- 3/2 = 6/4 then by componendo & dividendo 3+ 2/ 3- 2 = 6 +4/ 6- 4 OR 5/ 1 = 10/ 2

that wasnt a proof//that was just an example !! proof would be something like a/b = c/d ..(1) add one to both sides => (a+b)/b = (c+d)/d and subtracting 1 from both sides in (1), (a-b)/b = (c-d)/d and dividing the 2 new eqns,,we get out compenendo dividendo !

and you may use it in questions like (x+1)/(x-1) = 5 if you use CD here,you get 2x/2 == 6/4 i.e. x =3/2 see,,you get your ans directly using CD..
