how do i know if something is a ionic bond?

OpenStudy (aaronq):

you can tell if a metal binds to a non-metal. usually metals give their electrons to the non metals and become positively charged, conversely, the non-metals become negatively charged, the resulting attraction between opposite charges is what constitutes the ionic bond.
