What is the slope of a line perpendicular to the line with equation y = 4x + 5? Option A: 4 Option B: -4 Option C: -1/4 Option D: -5

OpenStudy (anonymous):

perpendicular line is opposite of slope of y

OpenStudy (anonymous):

For lines that have prependicular slopes, the slope will always be the negative reciprocal. This means that the number will be the opposite of what it was (positive to negative, or negative to positive) in value and it'll be the reciprocal (4 to 1/4, 1/4 to 4). This means that the slope would be -1/4, because that is the negative reciprocal of 4.
