1. At the end, both Dade and Julian feel alone in the world. Dade feels alone because he realizes he won't ever understand the people around him and they won't understand him. Julian feels alone also because his mother just died and Julian feels alone without her.  

2. His mom was trying to tell him that he had to live like he was going to die tomorrow.
