What was a major reason for the U.S. Senate's failure to ratify the Treaty of Versailles? A) No German reparations would be paid to the United States. B) Territory was given to France and Poland, but not the United States. C)There was fear that the League of Nations would supersede U.S. authority. D) There were disagreements over the treatment of Germany.

The answer is mainly (C). Isolationist supporters, particularly within the Senate, didn't like the condition that members should defend other members from unwarranted aggression. They were concerned that if a war broke out between League members, the US would be dragged into another foreign conflict. So as a result, the US actually didn't sign the Treaty of Versailles. A separate treaty was signed instead for the US' end to the war.
