The quadratic x2 + 5x – 14 has what type of roots?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

square

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(x+7)(x-2)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Ok, I would find the roots 1st in order to determine what kind of roots this quadratic has.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so whats the answer?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so x=-7, and x=+2 from factoring

OpenStudy (anonymous):

basically after factoring you set x=7 and x=-2 to 0 and solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

does that make sense or would you like me to go into detail ?

OpenStudy (phi):

I am guessing they want to know if the roots are real or imaginary. you can check by finding the determinant b^2 - 4ac if positive, you have real roots
