What is the objective of Mitosis?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Mitosis is the process of cell division. This is how the cells "reproduce". What happens in this is a plate forms in the middle of the cell after the cell has made two nuclei and doubled everything else. the cell then splits into two and forms another cell

Carter15 is right; mitosis is how cells divide, and make copies of themselves. You've probably learned about two kinds of cells: Animal cells and Plant cells. Each kind of cell divides differently. Plant cells form a cell plate, when they divide. That's what Carter15 is describing. But animal cells (the kind of cells that we have) don't form a cell plate.
