For example...

Spanish: Piano
English: Piano

They're the exact same! See?
And they mean the same thing too.

Another example....

Spanish: Artista
English: Artist

They really do look the same. And they both mean "artist."

On the other hand, FALSE cognates are words that look the same,
but DON'T have the same meaning.

For example:

Pie means "foot," in Spanish.
Pie means "pie," in English.

Fábrica means "factory" in Spanish.

It looks like the English word "fabric."

But "fábrica" actually means "factory," in Spanish.
NOT "fabric."

So again, cognates are words that kind of look the same, in both English and Spanish.

If they also mean the same, then they're TRUE cognates.

But if they DON'T mean the same, then they're FALSE cognates.

I think it's "meses," in the 2nd to last sentence.

It looks like the English word "mess,"
but it actually means "months" in Spanish.
