Use the analogy of an approaching ambulance to explain this.. As the ambulance approaches you? as it gets in line with you? and as it passes you?
Okay, so, if they blew it coming towards you then the waves would compress, thus making it louder, so you'd be able to hear it? I guess I had it backwards, thank you!
you welcome :).. np.. yeah, if the object moves towards you with a certain speed, then the waves get compressed in that direction making it louder. and vice versa if it moves away.. it is loudest though if the object is in line with you.. :v
Oh, okay. I have another question, though, what kinds of things would you use the Doppler equation to solve for? I think one of my problems needs it but I'm not sure.
