what life lesson do we learn from the issue of insanity in Hamlet? Basically I am doing a paper for the drama unit of my lit class and i need to figure out a theme for the issue of insanity from hamlet. This is the outline for my paper, but my teacher will not approve the outline unless I have a complete sentence for the theme of madness and insanity that is not a "you should" sentence but like a lesson we learn. The literary work of Shakespeare in his tragedy of Hamlet shows us many different themes of life to think about. 1. The mortality of all people. There may not be a tomorrow, so live life like there is not one. Even in Hamlets most famous soliloquy he is pondering whether it is better to live in suffering of to die and find peace. 2. Madness and insanity is largely shown in this tragedy from Hamlet's initial acting of craziness to his inevitable lose of sanity. To make it more visible we also see Ophelia go mad in the play after the loss of her father. 3. The mystery of life also plagues the characters. Life is a continuous mystery you live to solve. Living means there are things still undiscovered. Is the ghost really Hamlet's father or a demon spirit? Did Gertrude know of Claudius's treachery, blinded by love for Claudius, or just looking out for her own social standing and throne by marrying Claudius? Did Ophelia kill herself or was she truly so far gone that she did not realize she was drowning?
