parking in a student lot costs $1 for the first half hour and $1.25 for each hour thereafter. A partial hour is charged the same as a full hour. What is the longest time that a student can park in this lot for $7?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The longest time that a student can park there in the lot having only 7$'s is for about 4 1/2 hours

You could use A.P to find this out, though I'm not sure.

since the student only has $7 , and the first half hour there cost $1, and any additional hour after that costs $1.25. then take a $1 away for the first half hour. then take 1.25 per additional hours....and times that by 4 which 1.25*4=6.25 so $6 for 4 hrs and 30 mins. if you go another hour you will go over with the amount of money. Because you only have $7...if you would go for 5 hrs instead of 4 then it would cost $7.25.
