what was one reason for the failure of british troops in the south

The south had very few loyalists and their ports blocked most British imports. Also the Spanish owned florida and the french had Louisiana territory plus the French were allies which would make it easier for them to mobilize. BUT the main reason was the Southern culture didnt like the british and pretty much if a brit walked in there he would be harassed. I believe once I heard alot of original southern settlers were scottish and irish backgrounds and if thats true that also could have caused hatred for british.
