What is the product of 4x – 3 and x + 8?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

just multiply it out like normal multiplication

OpenStudy (amistre64):

4x – 3 x + 8 ------ 4x^2-3x +32x-24 ------------ and add em up

OpenStudy (amistre64):

i tend to think right to left is easier with polys .... but it doesnt matter, left to right is fine too 4x – 3 x + 8 ------ +32x-24 4x^2-3x ------------ add em up

OpenStudy (amistre64):

lol ... and i cant tell right from left apparently ;)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

A. 4x2 + 29x – 24 B. 4x2 – 35x – 24 C. 4x2 – 29x – 24 D. 4x2 + 35x + 24

OpenStudy (amistre64):

really? ive done all but the final adding up step ... im sure you can accomplish that much of it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got it thanks lol

OpenStudy (amistre64):

;) i had faith in you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hahah lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

(4x - 3)(x + 8) use the foil method (First, Outside, inside, Last) First ...(4x)(x) = 4x^2 Outside ..(4x)(8) = 32x Inside ...(-3)(x) = -3x Last...(-3)(8) = - 24 Now we have this... 4x^2 + 32x - 3x - 24 (combine like terms) 4x^2 + 29x - 24 <====answer
