Please explain how i would solve this Solve log x = 4 x = 4 x = 40 x = 1,000 x = 10,000

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

In general, log(x) = k turns into x = 10^k

OpenStudy (anonymous):

why 10?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i plug that into my calculator and get 4

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

because if you just say "log" without any mention to a base, then it's automatically base 10

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

Example: log(x) = 7 turns into x = 10^7

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ohhh. i plugged this in- 10^log(4)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so i just ignore the Log?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

once you convert, the log goes away

thanks!
