OpenStudy (kainui):

e^x=-x solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

apply ln (natural log) of both sides

OpenStudy (waleed_imtiaz):

what I have to do here? take left hand side... =e^x ...take log ... xlne =x....=R.H.S

OpenStudy (kainui):

\[x=\ln(-x)\]

OpenStudy (kainui):

All this tells me is that x must be negative, otherwise the log function will be broken.

OpenStudy (kainui):

I know there's an answer because the graphs of y=e^x and y=-x intersect at some point.

OpenStudy (waleed_imtiaz):

x should be positive I think so thats why we take mood like ln|x|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

good luck algebra will not do it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

you will use technology or numerical methods

http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=e^x%3D-x

OpenStudy (kainui):

Damn, there's no alternative trick then? Hmm.
