you have no idea about the distribution (you just know that it's not normally distributed), so you can't use the normal distribution or student T distribution

But How I figure when it is neither of those. I have been doing the questions and some of them are or either Normal distrbution or Student T distribution.

if you know it's normally distributed and you know sigma, then you can use the normal distribution if you know it's normally distributed and you don't know sigma, then you have to use the T distribution Note: if n > 30, then you can get away with using the normal distribution because as n--> infinity, the T distribution slowly becomes the normal distribution
