Regarding a point on a rigid rotating object, what is the difference between linear velocity and tangential velocity? And what is the difference between linear acceleration and tangential acceleration? Is angular acceleration parallel to angular velocity and the axis of rotation? I am confused about where the angular acceleration vector points.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Angular acceleration is parallel to angular velocity but perpendicular to the axis of rotation

OpenStudy (anonymous):

what?!??!?!/ its not perpendicular to the axis of rotation.. its ALONG THE AXIS OF ROTATION. you use.. the right hand rule.. the thumb gives direction of these angular vectors!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait. the axis is the thing in the center? lol i took it to mean the radius.
