Maths problem: A cinema ticket for one adult and one child costs £13.50.The cost of 2 adults and 5 children is £24 find the cost of tickets for one adult and one child

OpenStudy (anonymous):

You need to call the adult a variable, say, x or a, and then call the child another variable. From the sentences, come up with two different equations, then solve. Easy

Let's say the cost of an adult ticket is x and the cost of a child's ticket is y. Then, for example, the cost of 10 child tickets and 15 adult tickets is 10y+15x right? Apply this same idea to the question, create 2 equations and solve them! :)
