Teresa and Eva are walking home from school. They start out walking for 2 blocks and then running for 3 blocks and then repeating this pattern. If they walk 2 blocks in 4 minutes and run 3 blocks im 2 minutes, how long will it take them to go 18 blocks?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

They will do the following 2w, 3r, 2w, 3r, 2w, 3r, 2w, 1r The last run is "short". So, for each 2w, 3r it takes 6 minutes. So, that is 18 minutes right there. Now, you have to add 4 minutes and 2/3 of a minute to the 18 minutes.

So, your total is 22 and 2/3 minutes or 22 minutes and 40 seconds.

The 2/3 minute comes from running 1 block in 2/3 minute because of running 3 blocks in 2 minutes.
