How do antibiotics work to cure bacterial infections? Explain your answer.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

The action on the bacteria depends on the class of antibiotic: some interfere with the cell wall synthesis, some with protein synthesis and some disrupt the cell membrane. The antibiotic either slows the growth of the bacteria or kills them directly. There's more information here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Antibiotics
