You wonder whether plants that are exposed to music grow faster than those that are not. Describe a simple controlled experiment you can do to help you find out. Be sure your experiment includes a control group, an experimental group, one independent variable and control variables.

I don't feel like doing the homework for you. But I can help you out by explaining all of those terms, for you. ~~~~~~~~~~ An INDEPENDENT VARIABLE is something about the experiment that WE change, ourselves. It's the ONE THING that changes, in the experiment. In your experiment, the independent variable would be whether or not you expose the plants to music. We want to see if plants that are expose to music grow faster, than plants that are NOT exposed to music. So obviously, the one thing that we want to control whether or not the plants are exposed to music. Does that make sense? ~~~~~~~~~ The CONTROL GROUP is what we DO NOT CHANGE. We DO NOT expose the control group to ANY changes in the experiment. And in this experiment, the CONTROL GROUP would be the group of plants that IS NOT exposed to music. ~~~~~~~~~~~ The EXPERIMENTAL GROUP is the group that is exposed to the experiment. Your experiment will be designed, to see if plants grow faster, when they listen to music. So, your EXPERIMENTAL GROUP will be the group of plants that IS exposed to music. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ The CONTROL VARIABLES are the things about the experiment that you want to keep the same, throughout the entire experiment. Let me give you one example: the type of plants. What I mean is that in your experiment, you want to make sure that all of the plants are the SAME. Why? Because some plants do grow faster than others. The point of our experiment is to try to see if music affects how fast a plant grows. So, we need to make sure that all the plants that we're using are the SAME types of plants. If we had different plants, and one plant grew faster, then we wouldn't know if the music was the reason, or the type of plant was the reason. SAME PLANTS. That's ONE control variable. You'll need to come up with all the other control variables.
