Can you factor the numerator and denominator expressions from the original problem? (-k^2 - k - 2) / (k^2 - 4k - 5)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no

OpenStudy (anonymous):

On the bottom, you can factor k^2 - 4k - 5 as follows: k^2 - 4k - 5 = (k - 5)(k + 1)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

ok

I'm not sure about the numerator... unless there's a typo, it doesn't factor easily. Typically, you factor the top and the bottom, and then cancel out a common term like (k + 1), leaving the simplified expression.
