Find x.

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

the midsegment is always half of the segment that it's parallel to

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

so 5x+2 = (1/2)*(3x + 32)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

multiply both sides by 2 to get 2(5x+2) = 3x+32 now solve for x

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x=4 right? then I would just plug that in to the equations right?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

you got it, it's x = 4 since it only wants you to find x, you're done but if you want, you can use x to find the length of both the midsegment and the other parallel side by plugging x = 4 in

Ok thank you! :)
