I need help with a exponential function

OpenStudy (anonymous):

125^x=1/square root 5

OpenStudy (amistre64):

well, it looks like we will be dealing with powers of 5

OpenStudy (amistre64):

can you convert 125 into a power of 5? and also 1/sqrt5 into a power of 5?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

how do i convert the square to the power of 5? im drawing a blank? a negative?

OpenStudy (amistre64):

it would be useful to have 5^a=5^b to compare a and b with

OpenStudy (amistre64):

125 = 5^3 (5^3)^x = 5^(3x) 1/sqrt5 = 5^(-1/2) therefore when 3x = -1/2 will be the solution

OpenStudy (amistre64):

a sqrt is a 1/2 power, and since its under, to bring it up we negate it

OpenStudy (anonymous):

=-1/6....it clicked!!! thank you

OpenStudy (amistre64):

:) good luck
