PLEASE HELP! Tickets for the father-son breakfast were $4 for fathers and $3 for sons. If a total of 75 tickets were sold for $255, how many fathers and how many sons attended?
f + s = 75 and 4f + 3s = 255 This system can now be solved by either substitution or elimination. If you have any further trouble, just show your work and I can see where you might need further help.
oh okayy... how would you use those in this problem? i totally forget
The easiest way is elimination, which is Gaussian elimination. That's easier and more straightforward than substitution. You multiply the first equation (both sides) by a suitable number such that when you add that to the second equation, one of the variables falls out. For example, if you multiply equation one by -3 (again, both sides) and add that to the corresponding sides of the second equation, you will see the variable "s" drop out. Try it and see what you get. Again , both sides have to be multiplied by -3.
How are you doing with that? All good?
OHH okay i remember now! thank you!! i think im on the right track. Can i get the answers and then tell you what i got and you tell me if im right?
Sure!
okay! i got f=30 and s=45
Very Good! You'll do well! Very nice working with you!
Thank you for your help! You too!
