x + y = 6 x = y + 2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x + y = 6 x = y + 2 First put both equations in the same form by subtracting y from both sides. x + y = 6 x - y = 2 Then subtract the top equation from the bottom. x+y=6 -x+y=-2 2y=4 Then divide both sides by 2. y = 2. Then fill in y into both equations. x + y = 6 x = y + 2 x + (2) = 6 Subtract 2 from both sides. x = 4 x = (2) + 2 x = 4 Which results in the answers. y = 2 and x = 4.
