write this polynomial function in standard form. then classtfy it by degree and by number of terms n=4m^2-m+7m^4

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Write in descending order of power of m Start with n = 7m^4 ... can you continue?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no not really

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

Arrange the terms so that the power of m gets lower. The powers of m are 4 in 7m^4, 2 in 4m^2 and 1 in -m. Since you want the powers in descending order (from higher to lower) you need the order to be 4,2,1, so you get m = 7m^4 + 4m^2 - m That's standard form. The degree of a term is the sum of the exponents of the variable of that term. the degreee of a polynomial is same degree as the term with highest degree. Here the degrees of the terms are 4,2, and 1. So the degree of the polynomial is 4. The number of terms is 3, so it's a trinomial, or a three-term polynomial.
