x – 3 ≤ – 12 a. x ≤ –15 b. ≤ – twelve thirds c. x ≤ 15 d. x ≤ –9 My answer is a. What do you all think? This is an inequalities question by the way.

hero (hero):

1. It's obviously inequalities 2. Did you add 3 to both sides?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

No, i subtracted 3 from both sides.

hero (hero):

Your goal is to isolate x. Subtracting 3 from both sides doesn't accomplish that.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is a question from my test, i am just seeing if i understand the material enough to actually take it.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It is helping, it is subtracting 3 from both sides, leaving x on one side alone. Adding to that would help how?

hero (hero):

You were supposed to add 3 to both sides to begin with.

hero (hero):

Look what happens if you subtract 3 from both sides: x – 3 ≤ – 12 Subtract 3 from both sides: x – 3 - 3 ≤ - 12 - 3 x - 6 ≤ -15 SUBTRACTING 3 from both sides DOES NOT isolate x. Try ADDING 3 to both sides.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

This is overdue, my internet went down. Thank you for the help.

hero (hero):

Are you sure you figured it out?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Yea, i got it now. Thanks.
