What is the number of real solutions? 12x2 – 11x = 11

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i solved the equation to 11+/-sqrt of -506 ALL OVER 24 how do i know how many solutions there are @Dandave09

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hmm id check the root bit. so b^2 - 4ac is (-11)^2- (4 x 12 x -11) which is 121 - ( -528) if my maths is correct

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the rest is ok. just check that

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just recheck that part :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes u are right

OpenStudy (anonymous):

649 over 24

OpenStudy (anonymous):

@Dandave09 where are you

OpenStudy (anonymous):

here lol

OpenStudy (anonymous):

so 11+/ sqrt 649 all over 24

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes

OpenStudy (anonymous):

as b^2-4ac is 649 (a positive number) (b^2-4ac >0) it means we have 2 REAL solutions

OpenStudy (anonymous):

thanks
