9x^2+12x+4 9x^2+6x+6x+4 ... See note below (9x^2+6x)+(6x+4) 3x(3x+2)+(6x+4) 3x(3x+2)+2(3x+2) (3x+2)(3x+2) Note: 9*4 = 36, the numbers 6 and 6 both multiply to 36 and add to 12 at the same time
