TRUE or FALSE ??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is this statement true or false??

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i don't understand this one... please explain?? :) thanks! :D

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

a^2 + b^2 = c^2 3^2 + 5^2 = c^2 9 + 25 = c^2 34 = c^2 c^2 = 34 c = sqrt(34) So the focal distance is sqrt(34) units You add and subtract this from the x coordinate because the transverse axis is horizontal So you go from the center (1, -3) to one focus (1 + sqrt(34), -3) and you go from the center (1, -3) to the other focus (1 - sqrt(34), -3)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, so this is TRUE then?? b/c of what u wrote above?? :)

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

yes
