1/3 x - 3 = 1

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1/3x - 3 = 1 (the first thing to do is get rid of the fraction by multiplying the equation by 3) (3)1/3x - 3(3) = 1(3) Now multiply.... x - 9 = 3 (now you want to get x on one side by itself, so you have to add 9 to each side) x - 9 + 9 = 3 + 9 x = 3 + 9 x = 12 check.... 1/3x - 3 = 1 1/3(12) - 3 = 1 4 - 3 = 1 1 = 1 (correct)
