OpenStudy (amistre64):
what does the general equation of an ellipse look lke?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
x^2/a^2+y^2/b^2=1

right, but i think i see a simpler way for this one
one way to narrow it down good is to find the vertexes these are the points (x,0) and (0,y)
so can you find me those points?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
im confused.
OpenStudy (amistre64):
when x=0 this reduces to 9y^2 = 18 ; what does y have to be?
when y=0 this reduces to 2x^2 = 18 ; what does x have to be?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
y=2
OpenStudy (anonymous):
sqrt 2

y = sqrt(2) yes and there is no option for the verts where y is sqrt2
lets try the x
OpenStudy (anonymous):
x=3
OpenStudy (amistre64):
good, is there an option for verts at (3,0) and (-3,0)?
OpenStudy (anonymous):
yes
OpenStudy (amistre64):
then since thats the only one that meets our requirements ... it has to be correct :)
