the two methods are:
1)substitution 
solve one of the two equations in the system for a variable. Then take what that variable is equal to and plug it into the second equation
2) subtraction
Line up the two equations like you would for any other subtraction. Get it so that one of the variables will cancel out. (note you may have to multiply the entire equation to get it so it cancels)
