I'd probably go with the first option, that they span the entire history of ancient Egypt.

This makes the most sense because the New Kingdom ended thousands of years before the present. They were also not the only periods in which pharoahs ruled (later rulers would adopt the same title) and didn't necessarily mark the only periods of peace and prosperity during which the arts flourished.
