What's the difference between a rate and a unit rate?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

a unit rate is simply a rate where the quantity in the denominator is one. Like 1 mile, or 1 second, 1 hr, etc.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

suppose you traveled 120 miles in 4 hours that is a rate of 120mi/4hr

OpenStudy (anonymous):

to find the unit rate divide the numerator and denominator each by 4 so that the denominator will be one unit, in this case 1 mile. Its 30mi/1hour

ok thanks
