what is the surface area of a cylinder with the radius of 2 inches and height of 12 inches

OpenStudy (anonymous):

hello

OpenStudy (anonymous):

first find the area of the two circles on the ends.... then find the area of the rectangle of the body of the cylinder....|dw:1355366772398:dw|

OpenStudy (anonymous):

the area of the circles you know... its just \[A=(\pi)r^{2}\] and the area of the rectangle is the height times the circumference (as the circumference is the side of the rectangle.. of which you get the formula \[A=2(\pi)rh\] now for the Surface Area you would get the formula: \[SA=2(pi)r^{2}+2(pi)rh\]

OpenStudy (anonymous):

SA=2(pi)r2+2(pi)rh r=2in. h=12in. plug in then simplify
