how would you divide 4.89 by a thousand

OpenStudy (anonymous):

well, set it up like normal dividing. Then from there, add zeroes to the end of 4.89 until you can divide by 1000. Helps?

I still don't get it. Can you how me an example?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It's kind of hard to write an example by computer, but if you draw the long division sign, theat's the first step. From there, you have to look at your numbers. Does a thousand go into 4.89? No. So you keep adding zeros and fill in the decimals untill the very end. A simpler way to divide would be to move your decimal point to the right or left three times. That one is up to you to decide.

Don't forget to fill in zeros
