log(-1000) = -3....is this statement true or false. I'm coming up with different answers for this problem. It is so confusing. Please help>:(

you cannot take the log of a negative number

i don't know what you mean by "is one of the answers of 0 i got correct"? you can't take the log of a negative number for the following reason: \[\log_b(x)=y\iff b^y=x\] and if \(x<0\) say for example \(x=-5\) then you cannot solve \[b^y=-5\] because if you raise a number to a power, the result is always positive

now I finally understand...thank you soooooooooooon much satellite73. Your my hero, lol:o)
