Solving Quadratics by Factoring Solve x2 + 18 = –9x (Showwork for medal)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do u mean 2x? or x2...

OpenStudy (tainted):

x^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

x^2-9x+18 What two numbers would give you 18 if multiplied, but -9 if you add them? 18 | 2 9 | 3 3 | 3 1 | Pick one and multiply two out of the right column and try. 2*9 3*6 That's it! So -6*-3 = +18 and added -9 Therefore (x-6)(x-3) is the solution.
