x+2=3/x+5

What are you trying to do?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

slove for x\[x+2=\frac{ 3 }{ x+5 }\]

OpenStudy (lasttccasey):

Okay first bring the denominator of the right side over by multiplying:\[(x+5)(x+2)=3\]Multiply out the left side to get:\[x^2+7x+10=3\]Now just bring the 3 on the right over to the left so you have \[x^2+7x+7=0\]Use quadratic formula:\[\frac{-b \pm \sqrt{b^2-4ac}}{2a}\]Your two answers for x are:\[x = \frac{1}{2} (-7-\sqrt{21})\]\[x = \frac{1}{2} (\sqrt{21}-7)\]
