(-4-2i)-(-6+6i) I got the answer as 2-8i, but I wanted to know if I can simplify that to 1-4i? Or is that not right?

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

no the answer is just 2-8i

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Okay thank you! ^^

jimthompson5910 (jim_thompson5910):

if you divide both parts by 2, you have to multiply by 2 to counter-balance that, so you can do this 2(1 - 4i) but that's about it

OpenStudy (beginnersmind):

2-8i and 1-4i are two different numbers. You can "simplify" a fraction like 2/8 to 1/4 because 1/4 and 2/8 refer to the same number, just written in a different form.
