The radius of the bull’s-eye of the dartboard is 8 inches. The radius of each concentric circle is 8 inches more than the radius of the circle inside it. If a dart lands at random on the dartboard, what is the probability that the dart will hit in area C? A. 9/16 B. 5/16 C. 1/4 D. 3/4

OpenStudy (anonymous):

OpenStudy (anonymous):

would it be 1/4? not sure

OpenStudy (anonymous):

I think you need to get the area of the circle in this

OpenStudy (anonymous):

okay, i got 64 for the area :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

just a is pi8^2 a and b is pi16^2 and so on ...do those really quick

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait , im lost, do what now exactly?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

find the area of the entire dartboard..do you know how?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

do i add 8 each time i go to do pie since it said it increases 8 each time?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

if the radius of each area is 8 more than the last that means a is 8 ...a+bs radius is 16 ..a+b+c+ds is 32 ..so Pi32^2 is ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i got 1024

OpenStudy (anonymous):

is this correct?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

no..tell me how you got that?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

i did 3.14*32^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

32^2 is 1024 :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1024 x 3.14 is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

3215.36 , i put it in seperately this time :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

wait i dont think thats right , hold on.

OpenStudy (anonymous):

haha it was ..you are fine..

OpenStudy (anonymous):

oh yay!

OpenStudy (anonymous):

now that was abcd all together .... what you need to do ..is take off all but c . ..so first you need to get abc so that is pi24^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1808.64?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

correct..and then subtract it from ab or pi 16^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1005? i got 803 when i did (pi) 16^2

OpenStudy (anonymous):

1004.8 to be exact now that is the portion of the total you need to hit c ...... so 1004.8 / 3215.36 is?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

0.3125

OpenStudy (anonymous):

which as a fraction is which one? if you put those fractions in a calc they will convert to decimels i believe

OpenStudy (anonymous):

B 5/16 :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Correct :)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

So do you understand it?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

yes i understand now , thanks a million! :)
