what is the Big Bang Theory

OpenStudy (anonymous):

It is the most widely accepted theory to explain the origin of the universe. Unfortunately, it cannot be explained in a few lines. It is very vast. Nevertheless, it is very elegant and sufficiently powerful to explain a large number of "mysterious" observations. I would recommend you to read "A Brief history of time" by Stephan Hawkings. I am sure that you will love it. Enjoy!!

it was actually demonstrated in geneva in 2009 using an accelerator

It is also a popular television show in the US. I second the recommendation for Mr. Hawking's book.
