Factoring Quadratic Functions

OpenStudy (mathlegend):

(w+6)^2=3(w+12)-w^2

OpenStudy (mathlegend):

Now, what I did was...

OpenStudy (mathlegend):

(w+6)(w+6) w^2+6w+6w+36 w^2+12w+36

OpenStudy (mathlegend):

w^2+12w+36 = 3w+36-w^2 +w^2 +w^2 ----------------------------- 2w^2+9w=0

OpenStudy (mathlegend):

Now, I am at a loss of what to do...

OpenStudy (mathlegend):

I just did a problem like this too....

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Factor out a w

OpenStudy (mathlegend):

w(w+9)

OpenStudy (anonymous):

Answer is w=(0,-9/2)

OpenStudy (mathlegend):

w(w+9)=0 ?

OpenStudy (anonymous):

w(2w+9) then set them both equal to 0 w=0 2w+9=0

OpenStudy (anonymous):

lol jk u did good, just messed up a little

OpenStudy (mathlegend):

Thanks @CalebBeavers
