A salesperson earns a base salary of $1,380 per month and a commission of 7.5% on the amount of sales made. If the salesperson has a paycheck of $4,132.50 for one month, what was the amount of sales for the month?

OpenStudy (mathstudent55):

base salary + commission = paychek base salary = 1380 amount of sales = x 7.5% of sales = 0.075x Put it together: 1380 + 0.075x = 4132.5 Solve for x

I would write this as an equation: Paycheck = Monthly base salary + 7.5% commission So for the month reported: $4,132.50 = 1,380 + 0.075 (amount of sales) So just subtract 1380 from both sides, then divide both sides by 0.075 I hope that's helpful? Let me know; it's my first day on the site!
