I wish to be able to calculate sum of squares in 1 or 2 button presses using the lists on ti83. I believe that I must make a program to accomplish that goal.

Σ(X^2)-〖Σx〗^2/N is the formula for sum of squares.  I want to be able to calculate from a list (ex. L1) the sum of squares on the calculator.  

Another idea is to make  a program that takes variance [ variance(L1) x n (from L1) ]

I can't find how to do either method

N and n in above are the same variable btw.  N stands for number of scores.
