Ben is buying a new stove for $499.99. Sale tax is 7.5%. How much does he have to pay the total? Round your answer to the nearest cent.

\[499.99\times(1.07)\] and a calculator

A calculator is very helpful for this one. The total payment will be the stove's price, plus the tax. To do the tax part, you multiply by 1 plus the percentage as a decimal. Multiplying by one would just give you the original price, and the decimal bit gives you the extra. So the total payment is: 499.99 x (1.075) The tricky part is: 0.075 is the same as 7.5% Hope that helps!
