25+3*2=31, to add the tax do 1.08*31

Abby wants to buy one shirt for $25 and three pairs for socks $2.00 per pair. If sales tax is 8%, how much will she pay?. The price of her items is $25 plus $6, so that's $31. Then we need to add 8% onto the $31. You can do this with a calculator: (31)*(1.08) Multiplying by 1.08 is the same thing as adding on 8% because 0.08 is 8%. Or you can multiply $31 by 0.08 and add that to $31. Hope that helps! It's my first day on the site! Good luck!
